About the Book
Stolen Glances is a collection intended to make you feel from its first words to its last pages through many artistic choices, including its unusual formatting, provocative images, sensorial poems, and poignant short stories and microfiction pieces. It acts as a de-facto manifesto to the triumph of the human spirit over artifice and turmoil and as a reflection of the experiences of falling in and out of love. The phrase "Stolen Glances" can be understood by the many beautiful, wonderful people around us -- any of which is suitable to be a soulmate but which you never even have the chance to meet or spend time with. You can only "steal a passing glance" to use a common phrase. To quote one of the many poems within which embodies this very spirit: "You, your light / Hair whipping with the / Invisible wind / Your lips pausing / To purse in my direction before you / Disappear forever into my mind. I love you / but I barely saw you and /You’ve already forgotten." Please steal a passing glance inside this book. It will remember you even if you do not.
About the Collaborative
Why 9muses?
Created to oppose the present dystopian environment where limiting forces, such as restrictive capitalism fueled by unchecked and rampant consumerism, have diminished the role of art to a commodity that acts as a token or indicator of status. Whereas the present environment perceives artistic ideas as valuable based on its "sellable" attributes, 9muses observes the intrinsic worth of artistic productions without any limiting attributes. The production of increasingly captivating media forms with the intent of psychological elevation acts as our primary focus, with the secondary intention to democratize and equalize the artistic platform.
